Article 9 — Age of Majority

  1. The age of majority is eighteen years.
  2. Upon attaining the age of majority, a person acquires full capacity to perform all juridical acts and to exercise all civil rights, unless subject to a restriction imposed by law or a judicial declaration of incapacity.
  3. Age is computed from the day of birth; a person attains a given age at the commencement of the corresponding anniversary of their birth.
  4. Where the date of birth is unknown or uncertain, the competent authority shall determine an assumed date of birth for the purposes of computing age, having regard to available evidence including medical opinion. The assumed date shall be recorded in the civil status register with a notation that it rests on an estimate.
  5. A person who has attained the age of majority may not subsequently be treated as a minor, save under a declaration of incapacity in accordance with Chapter 4 of this Title.
